    1. Hi Hon

Chassiers is really quite remote up in the hills, which is the beauty of it. So if you enjoy nature, peace and quite, reading, relaxing eating and drinking and a slower pace of life then its perfect.

L'argentiere is the nearest town and maybe a good bet if your carless as its a wonderful little French town with a castle and fortifications and several restaurants and shops etc. Largentiere is located in the narrow valley of the Ligne River, approximately ten kilometres southwest of Aubenas.

It claims to be the smallest sub-prefecture in France!

The towns name, adopted in the thirteenth century in place of its more ancient name Segualeriae (Ségualières), refers to the silver mines in the area (and the middle names of our cats L'argent = silver) between the tenth and fifteenth centuries, when the silver-bearing lead ores in intrusive veins in the L'argentières sandstone were exploited under the authority of the Counts of Toulouse and the Bishops of Viviers.

Besides its twelfth- to fifteenth-century château, its a really picturesque town conserves its thirteenth-century church, Nôtre-Dame-des-Pommiers,[4] its Renaissance hôtel de ville, its palais de justice, and the Tour Argentière that collected the mines' produce for guarded transport.

We sometimes walk down from Chassiers to Largentiere for a meal and walk home by torch light under the stars (its very romantic but perhaps not for the faint hearted lol)

So Largentiere = good base if car less. Also lots of taxis and the Tuesday market snakes through the medieval town scape town and Saturday night markets are quite bohemian, lot sof taxis and cafes to watch the world go by as well.

In terms of getting to the area if you hit one of the main airports or rail station there will be enough of our entourage there i'm sure in order to help with a pick up if its pre planned in addition to my mum and dad and i'm planning my brother to have our Spanish family car there as well as of course me! On the ceremony day its an short cab journey from L'argentiere and we hope to have a driver for the evening so people can drink and take people back if they are staying in the Ardeche
A great source to have a look at is the Val de Ligne tourist website which is a toursim collective for all the villages that line the Ligne river valley which forms the back boen of the area we have chosen. Have a look I think you'll appreciate some of the photography on the front page!

When you've had a time to mull it over let us know and we can arrange for a pick up for you (or even join someone else who may be fly driving)!

      Big hugs Ray
